Who’s Behind the Lens
Hello there! I am Laurel Perkins; mother of 4 (plus a few bonus kids), photographer, light chaser, traveler, and woman on a healing journey.
Since my first pink Le Clic camera in the 80’s I have had some type of camera in my hand, finding what captured my eye. I can remember being on a field trip at Sea World San Diego kneeling, sitting, angling myself on the ground with that pink pocket camera trying to catch the right angle to tell the story I was seeing. It was a lot of wet knees and expensive mistakes when I developed the film! But I was hooked. All these decades later I am still often found out and about, capturing a story and memory that will never again be repeated in exactly the same way as in that moment.
Over the last 14 years I have been not only on a continuing photographic journey but, a journey of discovery, forgiveness, exploration, and self worth. Along the way I have been so blessed to meet the most amazing people. Every one of them helping me discover something new about myself and the world, healing me in some way. Wanting to share these experiences has long had me thinking about hosting my own photo retreats, but it never felt quite right. 2023 saw my life changing yet again and put me on another deeper path of healing. This time, diving deeper into the modalities of breath work, cold plunges, yoga, sauna, healing frequencies, and red light therapy…I knew what I needed to do. Marrying my passion for photography (which has been my therapy and an artistic outlet for so long) with these other therapeutic modalities I was finding so much benefit from became my new obsession. The idea for Healing Thru the Lens was born.
It has been a journey! But I am excited to share my passion for photography with others as we enjoy the healing benefits of being out in nature, capture the moments, experience different therapeutic modalities, and share some adventures together. I hope you come along!
